Reading
Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him. - Maya Angelou

If you go to the destiny catalog you can browse our library and pick out some "good fit" books before library check out!

Read alouds we've enjoyed so far are:

"Windcatcher" by Avi which was an interesting mystery involving a treasure hunt!

"The Twits" by Roald Dahl which was a hilarious short story about a miserable old couple and the pranks they play on each other.

"The Breadwinner" by Deborah Ellis is the novel we are currently reading. It's an action-filled story about an eleven year old girl, Parvana, who lives in Afghanistan during the Taliban rule. Her once wealthy family is now living in a small broken down apartment and Parvana is working with her father to try to support the family. Because she is a girl, she is no longer allowed to attend school and she misses her friends and knows that she is capable of doing great things.
