Gifted Services (GATE)

Welcome to Gifted Services

Students in the Rochester Public Elementary Schools may qualify for Gifted Services for grades 3, 4, and 5 based on the scores achieved on a combination of identification tests, the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Assessment. These tests assist the district with identification of students with gifted aptitudes in verbal or non-verbal courses of study. Verbal classes will incorporate reading and social studies standards. Non-verbal classes will incorporate mathematics and science standards. If students achieve a combined ranking on performance measures, then they will be formally identified to receive gifted services in Rochester Public Schools.

Hi, I'm Jessica Tewalt, the Gifted Services Specialist at Bamber Valley and Sunset Terrace. I work with students who need an extra challenge in verbal and nonverbal academic areas. I also teach 1st Grade PETS (Primary Education Thinking Skills). This program works on 6 different ways of critical thinking to enhance students problem-solving skills. It's so much fun working with the first-grade team at Sunset Terrace!I'm very excited to work with students and am looking forward to a great year! Please email me if you have any questions about gifted services. There are also links on the side of this page that will inform you about common questions related to GATE services.
